Taking the Pulse of a Town

Sometimes the only way to understand how the citizens feel is to ask them. Over a six-week period, I traversed the
town of Michigan City on foot, knocking on doors and engaging in conversations about their deepest concerns about
their community.

This series — which won awards from the Indiana Associated Press Managing Editors Association and the Hoosier
State Press Association — takes a close and personal look at the stark choices faced by a town that has lost its industrial heritage.

Here are a few of the articles that appeared in this six-part series.
